Others

R5 is a problem-solving organisation. We are often approached with projects that do not fit neatly into a neat bracket.  For example:

Powder for Reconstitution. These are common products, however less common is the development and manufacture of products filled into stick-packs and poured on to the patients tongue for immediate administration.

Veterinary

Products for pets (companion animals!) require a similar approach to human products with additional specifications regarding taste and friability. In general, pets bite into foods and do not suck them; they cannot be coaxed into swallowing foods with a poor taste or mouth feel. At R5 we can solve these problems.

Paediatric

Pharmaceuticals for children require not only low dose products but products that are convenient for the child but also for the parent/nurse/physician. Taste masking of oral products with assiciated care in avoiding dyes and sugars is just part of the R5 solution.

Spray Drying

This technology is rarely available in a cGMP environment. R5 produces spray dried materials to investigate the rapidly growing interest in amorphous materials. These can then be formulated into convenient dosage forms. Spray Drying is supervised by our spray drying strategic partner Upperton Ltd, whose offices are one block from R5.

Analytical Chemistry and Preformulation

During the proformulation phase we will learn about the API; the ways in which it may be and cannot be manipulated. This sets down the potential routes for designing the optimum drug delivery system. We will then assess the potential of specific excepients and potential manafacturing methods to be used with the API. This phase of development is often overlooked yet data generated here provides firm foundation for all that follows.

Analytical Chemistry is at the heart of any development project. We create the analytical methods for use by QC to release and assess products and stability indicating methods to enable us to conduct ICH Stability Tests to justify the shelf lives of the products we develop.
